MANILA -- Even as another typhoon approaches the country, at least 354 areas in 43 towns and cities in Ilocos Region, Central and Southern Luzon, and Metro Manila are still flooded due to rains brought by typhoon Maring and the southwest monsoon last week, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday.
At least 11 roads in Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and Cordillera remain closed to vehicular traffic, the NDRRMC said.
Affected are 2,928,348 people or 642,884 families in 2,048 villages in 154 towns and 37 cities in 18 provinces.
Of these, 17,883 families or 78,060 people are staying in 359 evacuation centers.
Damage caused by the floods and rain was estimated at P633,082,850.88, including P138,139,781.05 to infrastructure and P494,943,069.83 to agriculture.
At least 494 houses were destroyed while 1,037 were damaged partially.
The NDRRMC said at least 37 areas had been declared under a state of calamity, including five provinces, 10 cities, 15 towns and seven villages in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central and Southern Luzon, Metro Manila, and Cordillera.
Death toll
The death toll has been raised to 25, with the fatality list now including three from Olongapo City. Archie Camueda, 37, Nazareth Dulao, 15, and Rafael Lementil, 43, died from drowning.
Of the 25 deaths, 12 were recorded in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), 11 in Central Luzon, and one each from the Cordillera and Metro Manila.
The NDRRMC said at least 30 were injured while three remain missing.
